Crane Title: ” Dawn Rising”
by Pat Weiderspan Jones
Pat Wiederspan Jones is an artist hailing from Kearney, Nebraska. With an extensive background in art education, Pat enjoys creating and teaching from her own studio. Jones believes in the healing powers of self-expression, and most of her work now centers around exploring art journals, mixed media collage, painting on canvas, and works on paper.
In painting this crane sculpture this is Pat’s third large crane contribution to the Kearney Dawn Rotary Cranes on Parade project. “Dawn Rising” represents the spirit of hope, and the promise of a new beginning that comes with each new day. Referencing the famous painting by Botticelli, “The Birth of Venus,” with a beautiful figure glowing in the light of dawn and rising from the waters.
Pat Jones is probably best known for the watercolor landscapes of her Nebraska surroundings. Pat is always involved in creating art, teaching art, and supporting the arts in her community. Pat has been involved with, and passionate about, Cranes on Parade since the beginnings of this public art project, and so happy to be participating in Cranes on Parade III.
In addition to the two other large forms, Pat has contributed beautiful painted eggs and smaller 12″ study cranes. Jones holds a Bachelors degree from Hastings College, and a Masters degree in Art Education from the University of Nebraska at Kearney.
